RALLY FOR OUR FORESTS Saturday May 18 Batman Park, Cnr Flinders & Spencer Street, Melbourne City 11am, Melways: 1A, A11 (opposite the State ALP conference - Melbourne Convention Centre) Momentum is gathering for an end to logging in old growth forests. In the lead up to the next Victoria Election, the Bracks government will be making critical decisions on whether to protect or destroy old growth forests and water catchments such as Goolengook the Otways, Melbourne's water catchments and the Wombat forests. There has never been a more critical time for Victoria"s forest. Be seen, be heard, voice your dissent, and let everyone know that votes will be NOT go the ALP on their current disastrous policies. FOR THE FOREST - FAMILY PICNIC DAY Sunday 21st APRIL, 12md, LAKE ELIZABETH, Picnic area, Dept.Natural Resources & Environment are planning to break the PEACE DEAL and clearfell log TWO more CONTENTIOUS COUPES Up to this point no logging of 34 contentious areas has occurred. This week, they are planning to commence clearfelling of another TWO contentious coupes because their estimates of how much sawlog was available from the 6 contentious coupes taken back in January is out by over 50%. The volumes taken from the forest so far as of end of March are: 15,000 m3 sawlog D+ and 53,000 tonnes of CHIP COME TO THE PICNIC AND FIND OUT WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING. The Goolengook Valley hosts a remarkable array of endangered and threatened species, including rare warm/cool temperate overlap rainforest, magnificent Powerful and Sooty owls, Yellow-Bellied Gliders, and illusive Long-Footed Potaroos among others. 25-3-02 Easter Picnic - East Gippsland A celebration, picnic for all ages, and walk with experienced forest guides into ancient Gondwana relic forest and rainforest of Goolengook. When: 1PM, Easter Sunday 31 March Where: East on the Princes Hwy 33 kms past Orbost, just before the Bellbird Hotel. Turn left down Bendoc Ridge Road off the Hwy for 10kms. Turn right at fork onto Puggaree Road and follow signs to the camp. What you need: food and water, camping gear if intend staying overnight, bush walking clothes including wet weather gear, insect repellent and sun protection. Bring your camera and enthusiasm. They are also oblivious to the social upheaval and misery caused by their incompetence. We call on Sherryl Garbutt and Steve Bracks to protect the magnificent forests of Goolengook and remove Forestry Victoria from all responsibilities regarding the conservation and management of our forests.
