Control of the logging industry Rimbunan Hijau controls more than 60% of the logging industry in Papua New Guinea. It has logging operations spread across the country.
Rimbunan Hijau (PNG) is part of a Malaysian based corporate empire that includes logging operations in Malaysia, Indonesia, Russia, Brazil, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Gabon. The company also has extensive investment and business interests in New Zealand and Australia – paid for with income from the destruction of tropical rainforest. In PNG recommendations of official enquiries that are unfavorable to the company have not been implemented. PNGs Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister have done little about this travesty of justice.
